The Challenge
Sidestepping the tech skills shortage to accelerate business goals.
Fleetwood is an ASX-listed company that provides innovative spaces for people to thrive, leading the way in offsite manufacturing, modular construction and recreational vehicle (RV) solutions across five states.
According to Hayden Slee, Information Technology Infrastructure Manager at Fleetwood, the on-premises servers powering sites across the country were becoming expensive and difficult to manage.
“The design and deployment of our projects depends on reliable IT systems, and the dispersed, on-premises set-ups across Australia were proving inefficient and difficult to maintain. The small size of our IT team meant resources were stretched, impacting project delivery as the business was ramping up,” he said.
Fleetwood was also feeling the impact of Australia’s technology skills shortage, particularly when it came to mitigating cyber threats. To provide the level of protection needed, the business was forced to pull its IT team away from other critical day-to-day tasks.
Operational complexity
Dispersed on-premises environments across Australia were inefficient and difficult to maintain.
Resource constraints
A small IT team was stretched thin as the business ramped up.
Cyber skills shortage
Fleetwood needed stronger protections without diverting internal resources.
Growth pressure
Reliable IT systems were essential to keep projects moving nationally.

The Solution
A modern Azure and cyber security foundation.
Fleetwood engaged Macquarie Telecom and Macquarie Cloud Services to modernise its infrastructure, simplify connectivity and strengthen security across its sites, warehouses and factories.
By migrating into Microsoft Azure and implementing managed networking and cyber monitoring, Fleetwood gained the foundation needed to support its national operations while removing complexity for internal teams.
Centralised infrastructure in Azure reduced reliance on dispersed on-premises servers.
24-hour monitoring increased protection and reduced the burden on Fleetwood’s IT team.
Key Results
Simplified operations and stronger protection at scale.
According to Slee, the new set-up has already simplified processes and eased workloads for the team.
“Having everything concentrated in Azure with one service provider has removed complexity. All our teams need is a secure internet connection at each site to take projects to completion. It has also freed up time, effort and expenditure that used be associated with purchasing new servers.”
Slee continued that Macquarie’s local support has accelerated Fleetwood’s maturity and helped the business achieve its goals sooner.
The addition of round-the-clock cyber monitoring has also increased assurance as threats rise across Australian industries.
“Access to round-the-clock cyber protections has been a huge weight off our shoulders. If our team had to manage this burden completely, they’d be dragged away from other important aspects of their day-to-day roles,” Slee said.
Reduced complexity
Centralised Azure infrastructure simplified operations across sites.
Improved scalability
Teams can deliver projects with only a secure connection at each location.
Freed internal resources
Less time spent on servers and maintenance enabled focus on higher-value work.
Faster IT maturity
Macquarie’s expertise accelerated Fleetwood’s progress by years.
24/7 cyber assurance
Continuous monitoring reduced risk and removed burden from internal teams.
Trusted partnership
Local collaboration and commitment strengthened long-term outcomes.
Technical Solution Overview
Azure migration, networking modernisation and SIEM monitoring.
Fleetwood engaged Macquarie Telecom and Macquarie Cloud Services to:
- Migrate to Microsoft Azure.
- Implement 24-hour security information and event management (SIEM) monitoring across its sites, warehouses and factories.
- Roll out NBN connectivity and WiFi.
- Deploy SD-WAN and SD-LAN technologies to simplify networks and Wi-Fi routers, making them more software centric.
“Without access to Macquarie’s resources, skills and
expertise, it would have taken years to reach this level of
maturity and capitalise on our goals.”
