Azure Cloud Adoption Framework.
At Macquarie Cloud Services we follow a methodical approach to discovering, migrating and operating workloads in Microsoft Azure.
Our discrete service modules slot into any stage of your cloud journey. These include discover, design, prepare, deploy / innovate, optimise, secure, govern and operate – wherever you are in your journey, we can help.
Overview
What is the Azure Cloud Adoption Framework?
Moving workloads and applications to the cloud can be complex and time-consuming. Some workloads will have unique requirements, and not all will be suited to a cloud environment. Without the right plan in place, it’s easy to end up paying more than you should. Our Azure Cloud Adoption Framework is designed to simplify and streamline the process through which you evaluate, migrate and manage the overall migration process in your organisation. It involves six key steps which we have outlined below, and our expert consultants are here to help at every stage.
Azure Discover
Define Strategy.
Agree on the benefits, risks and motivations behind your cloud adoption. Explore questions like:
- What is the cost of operating in the cloud?
- How can I drill down on inventory and dependencies?
- What are the best early candidates to move to the cloud?
Workshop and understand:
- Core business
- Problem statement
- As-is deep environment analysis
- Desired state spend analysis
Azure Design
Plan.
Convert the goals of your cloud adoption strategy into an actionable plan. Explore questions such as how can I…
- Translate my current on-prem environment to Azure?
- Visualise my new project, app or environment in Azure?
- Design resiliency, security, governance and scalability into my app or environment?
Certified Azure Solution Architects undertake a best-practice workload assessment across 5 architectural pillars to determine workload and application usage, availability, performance, security, and scalability, business continuity requirements at the best cost outcome. A hybrid design and integration is built in to get the best of both worlds where relevant.
In this stage a Standard or Enterprise Landing Zone is drawn up for consideration.
Azure Prepare
Ready.
Set your plan in motion with all the required cloud infrastructure. Explore how you can:
- Get started.
- Get ready to deploy workloads to the cloud.
- Build a foundation for your cloud journey.
- Establish identity, infrastructure and networking principles.
- Validate the previous stages, while preparing for the next one.
- Phase migrations around acceptable outage windows.
Deploy a defined landing zone in Azure while finalising design and project plans through customer & 3rd party discussions and workshops.
Azure Extend | Azure Innovate | Azure Deploy
Adopt.
Iteratively assess, migrate, optimise, secure, innovate and manage cloud workloads. Discover how you can:
- Transition to the cloud.
- Test, build, move, migrate and transform.
- Phase migrations around acceptable outage windows.
- Leapfrog into new tech.
Refine and optimise the landing zone through iterative build, internal testing and hardening, business testing, benchmarking, simulated load testing & perform cutovers to migrate or deploy from scratch into cutting edge technology.
The iterative process continually seeks to improve cloud maturity by offering enhanced baselines above the Landing Zone baselines.
Azure Govern | Azure Secure
Govern.
Convert corporate policies into guardrails for your Azure environment. Explore how you can:
- Impose a governance structure.
- Ensure devs are empowered.
- Build to best practices.
- Implement recommendations.
- Prevent and remediate misconfigurations.
Set up tagging, policies and cost management tools to govern cloud usage, identify misconfigurations as well as implement and proactively remediate recommendations, plus cloud security posture management and benchmarking to meet industry standards. Guardrail lifecycle management keep the checks and balances relevant with changes in technology and processes.
Azure Optimise | Azure Operate
Manage.
Manage a continuously optimised operations of your cloud solution. We’re always thinking about how we can:
- Improve performance.
- Continuously improve processes and design principles.
- Cut down costs.
- Increase operational maturity.
- Remediate with approval workflows.
Macquarie Cloud Services’ managed operations fall broadly into 5 universal architectural pillars. Solution modules that provide the outcomes of the concepts and a next-gen operational framework support the pillars. AIOps deepen operational capabilities in specialised workload management.
- Cost optimisation
- Security and compliance
- Performance and scalability
- Availability and resilience
- Efficiency and operations
Platform operations are continually improved with regular feature releases.
